Beginners Class Information

  1. $100 for an six week course plus coupons for 2 free lessons in the intermediate class.

  2. Class Starts at 7:00 pm and ends at 7:55 pm.

  3. Classes are held at the Waltham Boys and Girls Club from September through June.

  4. Upon graduating from the beginners class, the seventh and eighth lessons are taken with the Intermediate class.

  5. Course Agenda

    • Understanding your dog

    • Walking your dog so both of you can enjoy it

    • Teaching your dog to sit, sit/stay

    • Teaching your dog to down, down/stay

    • Teaching your dog to come on command

    • Teaching your dog to stand, stand/stay

    • Teaching your dog to behave around other dogs

    • Street Smarts

    • Introduction to competition obedience

     

Intermediate Class Information

  1. Tuesdays September through June - Come whenever you can and pay as you come.

  2. Class Times:

    Starts 7:30 pm and ends 8:30 pm at the Waltham Boys and Girls Club from September through June.

  3. Class Information

    • See the WDTC Obedience Calendar for the focus of each night.

    • Directed instruction from Trainer in Novice, Open and Utility exercises (both AKC and UKC) as well as Rally Obedience

    • Information and help for competing in AKC and UKC Novice, Open and Utility Trials

 

Rules / Guidelines for all Obedience Classes

  1. All dogs must be properly vaccinated, in good health, and free from any deformity or injury that might affect physical or mental performance.

  2. Handler must keep dog under control at all times and must be strong enough to handle dog.

  3. Only one handler per dog allowed on the training floor at a time.

  4. Required Equipment (available for purchase at class):

    • 6 foot leather or canvas web leash (Nylon, chain, or retractable leashes not acceptable)

    • Properly fitted training collar (choke collar recommended, pinch/prong collar may be used with trainer's permission)

  5. Treats may be used in class to reward the dog.  Please be courteous to handlers who choose not to use treats and to other dogs by ensuring treats are not dropped on the floor as this is a distraction to all the dogs.

 

Beginner Obedience Class Rules / Guidelines

  1. All rules above apply to beginner class in addition to:

  2. Beginners class size is limited to 15 dogs.  Pre-registration is strongly recommended.

  3. Dogs must be 6 months or older to enroll in class; however, with the trainer's permission, we may take dogs at 4 1/2 to 5 months of age, depending upon size and temperament.

  4. Handler must keep dog on leash at all times.
